-Conditional design-
Conditional design is a type of design that uses the process of rules or conditions. The ideas is to create a new form of human interaction within design which can harmonisly work along side new medias and designs. Most design these days have rules like "the rules of three" and only using 2-3 colours. This idea of applying rules is what conditional design focuses on.
A great example of conditional design is simply adding a single rule, for example a diffenent colour should be applied for a new line or only even numbers of lines can be used. sounds easy but rules help you to recreate and design out of your comfort zone.
The first rule we had to apply was to draw a circle, once you had drawn a "perfect circle" the next person draws around it and so on.
- TASK TWO -
Each player had a colour and a angle e.g 0-45 degrees or 120-180 degrees. you draw a line and then a place a dot anywhere. For every persons go they can only go their angle direction and go from a point. Eventually shapes cross/form and should then be filled with in with vertical lines. This exercise took a while to understand but after a couple of errors we managed to create a really cool pattern using rule design.
The Third exercise was to take our birthdays and translate it into roman numbals. We then had to apply a rule to it and re create the look yet still understand it was a birthday date.

Rules applied:
-Changing the color of each section (DDMMYYYY)
-each letter is in the middle of the previous
I Found all these exercise really fun and interesting. Each exercise lead you to random outcomes and each one had a unique style. i believe using the idea of conditional design you have to break away from what you are use to and open you mind to new methods

This conditional design was created by STC creatives, three people draw for ten minutes however they are not allowed to cross paths or collide. i think this is a really creative and spontaneous style of designing where each round could be completely different.
Three Lines -

Conditional drawing
- by Sterre de Jong
Sterre believe that "If you think about the conditions instead of the result, you start working in an entirely different way. Guided by these three simple rules, you only have to worry about the process instead of how it’s turning out to be.
The only rules are that you have to create three conditions of which you have to work by. For example in my case: 1) I can only draw with a black fineliner pen, 2) Everything needs to be drawn by hand and 3) every square shape I draw can only be connected to a triangular shape.

** own work **
My first experiment was to draw squares and then draw anouther one from a previous pint of the squares. This was to be done within a 1 minute. I think this could work well with a bit of development.
- First experiment
- Third experiment -
Rules:
- dont lift the pen of the page, must be continuous drawing
- allowed only 1 minute
- you must draw in the shape of a square (up,across right, down, across left)
- there is no limitation to the length of the lines
Video of me doing the conditional design
I thought this style of design allowed different outcome aswell as being expanded on,such a adding or reducing time, adding more than one person,or adding different colours.
Second Experiment -
The second experiment was to fill the circle in 1 minute, but every circle had to touch. i liked this idea but i didn't think it could develop more and the outcomes would be quite similar every time.
